Spartanburg 2 Hits Homerun
Greenville Drive Reading All-Stars Program

On Fluor Field at the May 18 Greenville Drive game, Spartanburg School District 2 Assistant Superintendent Angela Hinton presented to Mayo Elementary Principal Laura Meyer, Media Specialist Katie Hughey, and Reading Coach Julie Vinesett the school's 2015 Reading All-Stars Outstanding Achievement Award that included a baseball signed by Drive players. The Greenville Drive Reading All-Stars Program is a reading incentive program designed to promote reading enjoyment and academic success. The Outstanding Achievement Award goes to a school with the top reading record.

Elementary and middle schools across the Upstate participated in the Drive's eighth annual reading incentive program. Students were challenged to read a set number of extracurricular books during February and March in order to receive free admission and special recognition at Drive games with other Reading All-Stars.

Spartanburg 2 schools were recognized at the game alongside Greenville County and Anderson District 1 schools. Boiling Springs Elementary Principal Michelle Kimbrell served as an honorary Drive captain.

Another highlight of the evening was the ceremonial first pitch delivered with vigor by Boiling Springs Elementary third grader Will Hardee, son of Spartanburg 2 teachers Trent and Patti Hardee. See his impressive pitch here: https://youtu.be/1tPdBiIC7t8 .

Michelin North America has been the title sponsor of the Drive Reading All-Stars Program since its inception in 2008.
