Teacher of the Year

Physical education teacher Carolina Cabe has been
selected as the recipient of the 2011 SCAPES (South
Carolina Association for Physical Education and Sport)
Founder’s Award for Teaching Excellence (Teacher of the
Year Award)—Elementary School Level. Her selection for
this prestigious award recognizing outstanding
contributions to Physical Education in South Carolina
was based on these criteria:
1.
conducts a quality physical education program as
reflected in NASPE standards and guidelines for K-12
Physical Education programs;
2.
utilizes various teaching methodologies and plans
innovative learning experiences to meet the needs of all
students;
3.
serves as a positive role model epitomizing personal
health and fitness, enjoyment of activity,
sportsmanship, and sensitivity to the needs of students;
4.
participates in professional development opportunities;
5. provides service to the profession through leadership, presentations, and/or writing.
Oakland Principal James Moore commented, “Being selected
to receive the 2011 SCAPES Award for Teaching Excellence
as the Teacher of the Year is a well-deserved honor for
Carolina Cabe. She is one of the most diligent,
professional, loyal, and dedicated teachers that I know.
We are very fortunate to have a professional of her
caliber working with the students and staff of Oakland
Elementary School.”
The
SCAPES Founder’s Award for Teaching Excellence will be
presented to Cabe at the South Carolina Alliance of
Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance
(SCAHPERD) Awards Luncheon on Saturday, November 12,
2011 at Kingston Plantation in Myrtle Beach.
Additionally, Mrs. Cabe has been nominated for the
Southern District and for the National Physical
Education Award. The results of these awards will be
announced in February 2012.
