"Jump Rope for Heart "
February is National Heart Month and we will be hosting our Oakland Elementary School Jump Rope for Heart. This year’s event will take place the week of February 15-19 in regular Physical Education class and at RECESS. I will need your help in helping the students jump at recess.
We will use the following schedule for students to jump:
Monday, Feb 15—Continuous jumping—have students count the number of jumps they can do in a row. Give them 2-3 practices. Each time they mess up or stop jumping they have to start back all over at zero!! Have three to four students count for each other.
Tuesday, Feb 16—Partner jumping—practice jumping with a partner. Hold one handle of the rope for the jumper and jump. Jump together with each student holding one handle. Jump together with one student turning the rope.
Wednesday, Feb 17—Show Off Day—perform tricks for your classmates. Show off your criss-cross, straddle, skier, bell, scissors, heel to heel tricks to a small group of friends.
Thursday, Feb 18—Long jump rope—practice jumping, run in and jump run in and jump out the back door. Play school—jump once for first grade and jump out. Run in and jump 2 times for second grade and so on.
Friday, Feb 19—Contest Day—Have a group of students (6-8 students) begin jumping. Once a student stops jumping or messes up he or she is out. The last jumper jumping is the winner. Have the winners stand to the side and have all the winners from each round jump again for the championship round.
Our goal this year is to raise $4000 and Mrs. Robbins will show off her double dutch skills for the school!!
****Also each grade level is challenged to raise over $1000. ****
If the grade level meets their goal you—teachers will show off your jumping skills at recess after our final total is announced.
