Title I Program

About the Title I Program

Title I is a federal program that provides financial assistance to eligible schools to assist in providing instructional services and special programs to meet the needs of economically disadvantaged children identified most at risk of not meeting the state's challenging performance standards. Title I funding is determined by the number of students who receive free or reduced lunch at each school. Spartanburg School District Two has four elementary schools (Chesnee Elementary, Cooley Springs-Fingerville Elementary, Hendrix Elementary and Mayo Elementary) who receive Title I funding.

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) governs Title I and provides direction for school implementation in the following areas:

  • Highly qualified teachers and paraprofessionals

  • Intense, ongoing professional development

  • Research based instructional practices and materials

  • Additional supplemental academic programs and staff

  • Meaningful parental involvement activities

  • Customized school programs based on the school's needs assessment
