Chesnee Elementary School Title I Parental Involvement Policy

In collaboration with parents, Chesnee Elementary school has created a Parent Involvement Policy which includes activities as outlined in section 1118 of the Elementary and Secondary Act (ESEA). In accordance with this policy, Chesnee Elementary agrees to:

In order to build capacity for involvement, the Chesnee Elementary staff will provide assistance to parents in such areas as understanding the Palmetto Assessment State Standards (PASS) and student performance standards. They will also offer assistance on information about state and local assessments, the requirements of this act and how to monitor their child’s progress. Chesnee Elementary staff members will also provide parents with information as to how they can work with educators to improve the performance of their children and information as to how they can participate in decisions relating to the education of their children. This information will be shared at the annual meeting mentioned as well as in newsletters and on the school website. A school parent liaison will work with parents and the School Improvement Council to develop school policies for parent involvement.

Chesnee Elementary will involve parents in the annual evaluation of the effectiveness of the parent involvement policy by having parents complete written evaluation forms for all meetings and programs, and will use such findings to design strategies for school improvement and make revisions as necessary.

Chesnee Elementary will provide materials and trainings to help parents work with their children to improve achievement. Materials will be distributed throughout the year by way of e-mail, written notices and/or pamphlets.

Chesnee Elementary will educate all staff members regarding the value of parent involvement and the positive impact it has on student achievement and in understanding how to utilize parents as equal partners.

To the extent feasible and appropriate, Chesnee Elementary will invite parents of preschool aged children to participate in activities that help children have a smooth transition from pre-school to kindergarten. These activities include, but are not limited to, Kindergarten Orientation, Literacy Night, Math and Science Fun Night.

Chesnee Elementary will ensure, to the greatest extent possible, that the school will provide full opportunities for participation of parents with limited English proficiency or with disabilities, and that information related to school and parent programs, meetings and other activities is sent to the home of participating children in the language used in homes.

Chesnee Elementary will provide reasonable support for parental involvement activities as parents may request.

In collaboration with parents, Chesnee Elementary has created a school parent compact which outlines how parents, students and the entire school staff will share in the responsibility for improved student achievement.
