Tips for Students entering 5K:

  • READ! READ! READ!  Research shows the best indicator of having a child who is a good reader is a child who was read to at an early age.

  • FLASH CARDS - name numbers 1-10 and letters of the alphabet.

  • COUNTING to 20 or higher

  • WRITING NAME - practice first and last name.  Please encourage your child to capitalize only the first letter of the name.  Please make sure your child is forming letters correctly.

  • HAVE FUN!!!!  Use everyday situations to make review fun.  Examples:  counting the dishes as you set the table, name letters from billboards, have your child retell the story after you read, write the names of family or friends, etc.

  • The public library has a reading program with special prizes.  Your child can sign up the first week of June.  There is also a story time each week and special activities throughout the summer.
