Theme:
We will continue our study of fall this week. We will
continue to talk about seasonal changes that we notice in
the fall, and we will take a look at different vegetables
that are harvested in fall!!
Phonics Focus:
“Jj” and “Vv” Please notice that beginning this week we will
focus on two letters each week, so that we will have studied
all 26 letters of the alphabet by Christmas!
Sight Words:
We will not study any new sight words this week, but
will instead use this week to review all 27 sight words
and 10 color words that we have learned so far this
year. Please make sure your child can read the words we
have studied so far this year. These words will be
assessed on the report card.
Homework:
 The
homework for this week is attached. Please make sure
your child completes his/her homework and turns it in on
Thursday (no school Friday).
Reminders:

This week is Red Ribbon Week – “I Believe in Me…Drug
Free” We have lots of activities planned for our school this
week! We have decorated our classroom door, we have made a
classroom banner that reminds us to “say no”, and we have
participated in many other activities. I would like for our
class to earn points for “the teacher wearing all red”! If
you have something red that you could send on Thursday to
help Mrs. Meeks dress in all red, we would appreciate it!
Also, please send in any donations that you have for our
“Zig the Pig Campaign” on Wednesday or Thursday this week!
The class in each grade that raises the most money will
win extra recess and ice cream!!!

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday and
Thursday from 3:00 – 6:00pm. You should have received a
notice of your scheduled time last week. We look forward to
meeting with each of you!!

South Carolina Future Minds
"Celebrate Teachers" Art
Contest
South Carolina Future Minds is looking for artwork from
public school students in PreK-12th grade that support the
theme “Celebrate Teachers”. The contest submission period
runs from October 1, 2012 - November 30, 2012. A team of
judges will narrow the field and general voting by the
public will run for two weeks beginning December 3, 2012 on
Face book. The winning entry will be announced on or soon
after December 17, 2012.
May is Teacher Appreciation Month in South Carolina, and
South Carolina Future Minds would like to expand its month
long celebration of teachers by partnering with the Columbia
Museum of Art to exhibit student artwork during the month of
May. Depending on available exhibition space up to thirty
entries will be on exhibit at the Columbia Museum of Art
from April 28, 2013- May 28, 2013. The winner will be
featured prominently during the show at the Museum and will
be featured on the South Carolina Future Minds Face book
page and website.

Any flat two-dimensional media may be used. This includes,
drawing, photography, printmaking, collage and painting. The
theme is “Celebrate Teachers”, and may include: What my
teacher means to me, How my teacher influences my future,
etc.
Tips for Entering the Contest:
Take a picture of your artwork. Use a high resolution camera
(5 megapixels or higher is best; however, 2 megapixels at
the highest resolution will work).
Use indirect light to minimize glare.
Take the photo as straight on as possible to prevent
distortion and hold the camera as still as possible. Check
your image for blurriness and make sure it is clear.
Acceptable image types are jpg, gif and png.
Maximum file size is 3Mb (3145728 bytes).

ART TO REMEMBER
Our school, in conjunction
with Art to Remember, is offering a program that reproduces
your child’s original art work on a variety of colorful
products including magnets, key chains, quilt blocks,
beverage insulators, matted prints, wall calendars,
bookmarks, note cards, lunch bags, flower pots , t-shirts
and many more exciting and useful products.
Art work has been created in
Mrs. Campbell’s art class room and will be sent home with an
order form and brochure of all the products available the
week of Oct. 15th-19th. Student art on these products
will make unique keepsakes and wonderful holiday gifts.
Orders are due Mon., October 22nd to your child’s homeroom
teacher. Ordered products will be back at the beginning of
December in time to be Christmas gifts for Grandparents and
other family members. We are excited to showcase your
child’s art work in such a special way. If you have any
