Kim Ashby, principal, gave updates:
· David Pizor, SIC member, will be planting trees around the dumpster in order to shield the appearance and noise for neighboring subdivisions.
· David Pizor, SIC member, will be aiding in the repair for our kindergarten playground. Playground border will be repaired and a new playground mulch material will be added.
New Business
· Parent Survey (handouts were provided for each SIC member):
Jeremy Bishop, SIC member, had prepared a sample parent survey that could be used to collect current data based on parent relations and parent satisfaction with BSES. After district approval, Jason Womick (SIC member) will aide in getting this online. It was also suggested to send the surveys home in envelopes so that they will remain anonymous.
· Goals for the 2009–2010 school year were set. Student attendance goal was set at 98% and the teacher attendance goal at 95%.
· It was discussed to use upper grade students to be mentors for lower grade students. Suggestions were for mentors to walk younger students to the buses and/or class in the mornings. It was suggested to have upper grade mentors read with lower grade students one day per week.
· A plan was made that a brochure would be available for parents at beginning of the year registration to explain the many clubs and other opportunities offered for students at BSES.
· A concern for more parent education opportunities was expressed. It was decided that ideas would be brought to the next meeting to address this issue. Angie Stroupe, SIC member, will draft a letter for parents.
Next Meeting
· January 26, 2010 @ 6:00pm in BSES media center.
*Meeting was adjourned.
